Your future rests on your friends

Picture
Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.
You may disagree with this statement, but did you know it’s actually in the Bible?

The one who walks with the wise will become wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm. Proverbs 13:20

So let’s think for a bit: who do you have in your squad who is wise, and who do you have in your squad who are fools? Who do you have in your squad who give you life, and who do you have in your squad who hurt you?

Throughout the book of Proverbs, Solomon gives us characteristics of friends who we should have in our squad and those whom we should either avoid or not be very close with.

But here’s the idea for this week:
Who in your life do you need to cut and who in your life do you need to bring closer? …or simply add to your life?
Here are a four things you can do to make sure you have good friends in your life and walk with them continually:

  1. Text a wise, close friend or mentor once per day and tell them where you saw God work (even in the little details of life).
  2. Join the FCA or another Christian group in your public school.
  3. Create a group chat with your Sunday Night small group and post prayer requests…and actually pray for each other.
  4. Host a sleep over at your house and talk about ways you can help each other follow Jesus and hold each other accountable with telling others about Jesus.

It seems like it’s crazy difficult to walk with the wise 24/7, but with a little effort and just a few text messages, you can constantly surround yourself with people who will build you up and not tear you down—who give you life rather than hurt your future.

But the choice is yours and yours alone. What type of future do you want for your future?
